Give your Zakat al-Fitr & spread Eid mercy. Just £5 feeds those in need - multiply your rewards today.
“The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) ordained Zakat al Fitr to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy. It is accepted as zakah for the person who gives it before the Eid prayer; but it is a mere sadaqah for the one who gives it after the prayer.” (Hadith Abu Dawud)
At the end of Ramadan each year, each Muslim must pay Zakat al-Fitr before attending Eid prayer. This charity is a very particular type of Zakat, which allows Muslim families to purify their Ramadan worship while lifting up the most vulnerable in the Ummah. Any family that pays Zakat – that is, the breadwinner has enough money for their basic needs and has any savings – must pay Zakat al-Fitr for every member the family, including any children or elderly people.
£5 Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) for one person.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) described the quantity of Zakat al-Fitr as one saa’ of staple food. A saa’ is the volume of measurement that one can scoop up with two hands together, which – for a staple such as rice or bread flour – is equivalent to about £5 today.
This means that every person in the family must pay £5 for Zakat al-Fitr. It must be paid before you attend Eid prayer in order to fulfil the Zakat requirement, but we advise you to make your donation as early as possible so that we can distribute your donation during Eid.
This year, Human Appeal will be delivering you Zakat al-Fitr in Gaza, providing hot meals to families, helping them to have the comfort of an Eid meal amid the hardship they’re facing.
Hundreds of people in Gaza have been killed in a matter of days, including over 200 children as a violent bombing campaign adds to over 60,000 people killed since October 2023. As families try to observe Ramadan, they’re being deprived of food, water, fuel, and other necessities.
Our brothers and sisters in Gaza urgently need help to access food. Provide your Zakat al-Fitr in Gaza and help us to fight hunger in Gaza.
