65.6 million people are at risk this Winter

Refugees are at their most vulnerable this Winter. A global displacement crisis has driven over 65.6 million people from their homes. That's 20 people every minute. Without a place to call home, these refugee families may not survive the winter.

In Bangladesh, Rohingya Muslims have been forced to flee after their homes were burned to the ground. In Iraq and Yemen, parents cannot feed their starving children. In Palestine, displaced mothers are desperately trying to keep their children warm and dry. In Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, Syrian refugees are facing their seventh winter in exile - for them, enduring the bitter cold has become a yearly struggle.

Adbul’s story

Meet Adbul Aziz. He’s a Syrian teenager living in a refugee camp in Lebanon with his family. He was born with a hole in his heart and is completely bedridden. His mother has to wash and dress him each day, and help him to the toilet.

The mattress Abdul lies on is so thin that he can’t sleep on his back because the hard ground beneath leaves him with bruises. He stays awake for hours each night, forced to lie on his front, tears trickling down his face.

This Syrian family’s life is already desperately hard. The arrival of winter will make it unbearable. The roof of their makeshift shelter has begun to leak, allowing icy rainwater to drip inside. It urgently needs to be repaired or Abdul Aziz could become dangerously sick. Without immediate intervention, this vulnerable family could easily freeze or starve to death this winter.

This winter, Human Appeal will be working tirelessly to protect vulnerable families like Abdul's from the bitterness of winter, but we can do nothing without your help. We can't stop winter coming, but we can stop it from being a killer.

Stop winter killing around the world

Give a family shelter this winter

Conflict has destroyed millions of homes worldwide, forcing displaced and refugee families to live in thin nylon tents and makeshift shelters. Strong winds, icy rain and snow can easily creep inside, putting vulnerable children, pregnant women and the elderly at risk of sickness and even death. £250 will provide a family with shelter to protect them from the rain, wind and snow.

Help a family survive this winter

In the bitter cold, refugee children don’t stand a chance. Many don’t have winter coats or shoes on their feet. They walk barefoot in the snow, collecting scraps of wood and plastic to burn for fuel. These innocent little ones need help to survive the winter. £165 will provide a desperate family with food and winter survival essentials like blankets and warm clothing to help them survive the bitter months.

Save a family in danger this winter

Freezing temperatures slash the chances of survival for tiny babies living as refugees or in camps for displaced people. Without warm clothes or blankets, they have no protection from the cold. The winter cold can so easily snatch away the lives of innocent newborns. £100 will give a vulnerable baby and their family the warm clothes, blankets, mattress and heating fuel they so desperately need to keep warm this winter.

This winter, 815 million people will go to bed on an empty stomach every single night. Just £65 will provide a family of four with enough nutritious food for a whole month, meaning they can eat full meals every day.

Last winter we saved lives together

Last winter we saved lives together

Thanks to your generosity, thousands of people in desperate need received vital support last winter. You helped us to deliver aid to 14,500 people inside Syria, 400 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and 7,200 Syrian refugees in Jordan.

In Palestine, you helped to shield 22,000 people from the cold. In Jerusalem and the West Bank, 4,200 received lifesaving aid. In Pakistan, you safeguarded 3,000 people and in the UK, 4,000 vulnerable people were protected in the most difficult months of the year.

This year, even more people are hungry, cold, homeless and in desperate need of our help. Together, we can save innocent lives.

Help Us Stop A Killer This Winter

Our world is in turmoil, wracked by displacement crises, conflict and disease. It's more important than ever that we work together to protect the most vulnerable people living in poverty and facing uncertainty every single day. In winter, the bitter weather will cause unimaginable misery to families who are already enduring so much suffering. We must act both globally and locally, to support those in need both on our doorstep and in countries that we may never visit.

This year, we aim to help millions of people worldwide to survive winter by distributing blankets, mattresses, fuel, nutritious food and warm clothing. We can only carry out this vital work with your support.

With your help, we can stop winter killing today.
