When is Ramadan starting?

Ramadan 2026 is expected to start on the evening of Wednesday 18th February 2026, meaning the first day of fasting will be Thursday 19th February 2026. The exact start of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the new crescent moon (Hilal) on the 29th day of Sha’ban, the preceding month.

The moon-sighting can vary globally, some communities follow local sightings, while others use astronomical calculations, so dates may differ by a day. Always check official announcements from Human Appeal or your local mosque for confirmation.

For spiritual guidance, consider using an interactive Dua book or Digital Ramadan Planner to organise daily fasts, prayers, and charitable giving.

When is the end of Ramadan?

Ramadan concludes with Eid al-Fitr, which begins on the first day of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. The end of Ramadan is confirmed when the new crescent moon of Shawwal is sighted on the 29th night of fasting. If the moon is not seen, Ramadan completes after 30 days.

For 2026, Ramadan is expected to end on Friday, 20 March 2026, with Eid al-Fitr beginning that day or the following evening, depending on moon-sighting.

Before the final day of fasting, Muslims are obliged to pay Zakat al-Fitr, ensuring that those less fortunate can also celebrate Eid. Donate your Zakat today.
