Human Appeal launches 8th annual Wrap Up Coat Collection initiative

Coats donated during Wrap Up

Biggest ever Winter Coat donation campaign launches from 23 October, with collection points across 7 UK cities

11 October 2023: Human Appeal, one of the UK’s fastest growing humanitarian aid charities, has launched its annual ‘Wrap Up’ winter coat donation campaign, running from 23rd October – 12th November this year.

Now in its eighth year, ‘Wrap Up’ is a call to action for those around the country who can donate winter coats that they no longer need. Donations will be distributed among the UK’s most vulnerable communities, including women and children in shelters, the homeless and refugees to help keep them warm this winter.

Last year, a total of 9,500 warm items were donated across the country, with donations including warm jumpers in recognition of the cost-of-living crisis and increased demand as vulnerable communities around the nation reduced their heating bills. This was a massive 35.7% more than the target number of items – a tremendous result.

This year, Human Appeal are hoping for another record ‘Wrap Up’ year, with the aim of reaching a total of 7,000 coat donations and 3,000 warm winter items. The appeal is also accepting warm jumpers again as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact people around the country.

As well as coat donations, members of the British public are also able to donate £10 to Human Appeal to provide the vulnerable with a winter essentials kit, including thermal hats, scarves, gloves and blankets.

Wrap Up is supported by car rental company Enterprise, who are offering up their fleet of vans to transport donated coats, as well as providing additional drop off venues in some participating cities. Another annual sponsor of the campaign is SafeStore, who make their venues available as flexible collection points for donated items.

Coats can be donated in bags at the following locations and an online donation for £10 can be made here, in lieu of warm clothing to donate.

Ahmed Osman, UK Programmes Officer at Human Appeal, comments: ‘This annual collection of warm clothing is always one of the highlights of Human Appeal’s work around the UK. Year after year we have seen firsthand how donation provides a warm glow to the vulnerable people who receive the items. The cost-of-living crisis is affecting people throughout the country and this year the call for donations is more urgent than ever – we are grateful to people for whatever they can give whether coats or online donations, and extend our thanks to Safestore and Enterprise for supporting this much needed campaign for yet another year.’
