The Best Du’as for the Last Ten Nights

“And your Lord says, "‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’" (Quran 40:60)

If you read and reflect on this verse, it is enough to bring you to tears. Imagine your Loving Master saying that to you, personally. This ayah highlights Allah’s Love, Power, and Generosity. He is willing to give us whatever we want or better. He has the power to give us what we want. And He gives without measure. Then why do we not ask Him?

Salman al-Farsi reported: The Prophet (SAW) said, “Verily, Allah is munificent and generous. He would be shy, when a man raises his hands to him, to turn them away empty and disappointed.” [Sunan al-Tirmidhī]

Here is a list of du’as you can make during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Some are specific, while others are more general yet comprehensive:

1. Du’a for Abundant Blessings, Wealth and Children:

Prophet Nuh (A) told his people that if they repented to Allah and did istighfar, Allah would give them numerous blessings, wealth, and children being among them:

“And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.” (Quran 71:10-12)

The translation here says that Allah would send rain from the sky, but it is not limited to just rain. Allah is saying that He would give them all sorts of rizq from the sky: forgiveness, guidance, blessings, and mercy.

2. Du’a for Forgiveness:

The best du’a for seeking Allah's forgiveness is Sayyidul Istighfar. If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the evening,

The Prophet SAW said: “He will be from the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before the morning he will be from the people of Paradise." [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

Recite these words when seeking Allah’s forgiveness:

“Allahumma anta rabbi laaa ilaaha illa anta. Khalaq tani wa aana a'bduk. Wa aana aa-la ahdika wa wa'di-ka masta-ta'tu. Aa u'zubika min-sharimaa sa-na'tu. Aa-bu u-laka bi-ni'matika a'laiya. Wa aa-bu u-bi-zambi Fagh-firli Fa-inna-hu la yagh-firuz-zu-nu ba il-la anta.”

“O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshipped except You, You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide to Your covenant and promise [to honour it] as best I can, I take refuge in You from the evil of which I committed, I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sins except You.”

3. Du’a for Anxiety and Distress:

“Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal’ajzi walkasali, wal-bukhli waljubni, wa dala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal.”

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e. others).” [Al-Bukhari]

4. Du’a for Protection of Blessings from Calamity:

Many people have suddenly lost their jobs, their health, or their loved ones due to coronavirus. Here is a du’a that protects blessings from being afflicted by calamity.

'Abdullah bin 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate thus:

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatika.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You against the declining of Your Favours, passing of safety, the suddenness of Your punishment and all that which displeases You." [Muslim]

5. Comprehensive Du’a of the Prophet (SAW):

Since our fate is sent down for the following year on Laylatul-Qadr, this is an ideal du’a to make on the last ten nights.

It was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) taught her this supplication:

“Allaahumma inni as’aluka min al-khayri kullihi, ‘aajilihi wa aajilihi, ma ‘alimtu minhu wa maa lam a‘lam. Wa a‘oodhu bika min al-sharri kullihi, ‘aajilihi wa aajilihi, ma ‘alimtu minhu wa maalam a‘lam. Alllaahumma inni as’aluka min al-khayri ma sa’alaka ‘abduka wa nabiyyuka Muhammadun sall Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, wa a’oodhu bika min sharri ma ‘aadha bihi ‘abduka wa nabiyyuka. Allaahumma inni as’aluka al-jannah wa ma qarraba ilayha min qawlin aw ‘amal, wa a‘oodhu bika min al-naar wa ma qarraba ilayha min qawlin aw ‘amal, wa as’aluka an taj‘ala kulla qadaa’in taqdeehi li khayraan.

"O Allaah, I ask You for all that is good, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allaah, I ask You for the good that Your slave and Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has asked You for, and I seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your slave and Prophet sought refuge. O Allaah, I ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and I seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And I ask You to make every decree that You decree concerning me good.” [Sahih al-Albaani]

6. Du’a for Overcoming Difficulty:

“Allahumma laa sahla illa maa ja’altahu sahla, wa anta taj’alul-hazna, idha shi’ta sahla.”

“O Allah! There is no ease except that which You make easy, and indeed You, when You want, make grief and difficulties easy.” [Sahih Ibn Hibban]

7. Du’a for Protection from Diseases:

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate:

"Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-barasi, wal- jununi, wal-judhami, wa sayyi'il-asqaami.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from leucoderma, insanity, leprosy and evil diseases)." [Abu Dawud]

8. Du’a for Good Character:

‘Allahumma ‘inni ‘as-alukas sihhata wal’iffata wal’amaanta wa husnal khuluqhi warridhaa bil Qadar.’

‘Oh Allah, I ask You for health, restraint, trustworthiness, good character and contentment with the decree.’ [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad]

9. Du’a for all types of Rizq:

When Musa (A) made this du’a as is famously known from the Qur’an, he was granted a home, a career, and a righteous wife:

“Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir.” [28:24]

“My lord, I am in absolute need of any good You send me.”

10. Special Du’a for Laylatul-Qadr:

Aisha (ra) narrated: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Laylat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He (SAW) replied, “You should supplicate:

“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni.”

“O Allah, you are the Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive; so forgive me.” [At-Tirmidhi]

Bonus: Du’a for anything you ask for:

The Prophet (SAW) said about the famous du’a of Yunus (A): “No Muslim ever prays to his Lord with these words for anything, but He will answer his prayer.” (Recorded by At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa’i in Al-Yawm wal-Laylah)

“Laa ilaha illa anta, Subhanaka, inni kuntu min adh-dhalimeen.”

“There is no God but You, Glorified be You! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.”
