Syria Emergency Appeal
Violence has escalated in Syria, putting millions of innocent lives at risk. In the besieged area of Eastern Ghouta, deadly airstrikes have killed more than 1,000 people since February 18th. The UN Secretary General has described the situation in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta as “hell on earth”.
More than 393,000 civilians are still trapped in Eastern Ghouta, without food, clean water or medical supplies. Essential aid is being blocked from entering the area, leaving families on the brink of starvation.
The UN Security Council unanimously voted for a 30 day ceasefire across Syria, but devastatingly the airstrikes have not stopped. Intense bombing was still occurring hours after the vote.
Throughout the winter, we supported the besieged communities in Eastern Ghouta with shelter and fuel for heating to combat sub-zero temperatures. Despite the dangerous siege conditions, Human Appeal is now working through our local partners on the ground to distribute food, firewood, warm blankets, shelter and medical aid to hundreds of families in desperate need. We have already 6,800 people with fresh bread and 4,300 people with cooked meals.

Life is a waking nightmare for families caught in the Syrian conflict
The war in Syria has been going on for the past 7 years, with no end in sight. Across Syria, a shocking 13.1 million people are in desperate need of humanitarian aid, and at least 5 million of them are children. More than 6.1 million people are internally displaced in Syria, their homes destroyed by ongoing airstrikes.
Vulnerable families who have fled from bombs and bullets are in urgent need of shelter, food, clean water, medical attention and WASH facilities. Many have been wounded by the ongoing airstrikes and even more are traumatised by the horrors they have witnessed.
Human Appeal's work in Syria
Human Appeal has been on the ground in Syria since this shocking humanitarian crisis began in 2011. We are working through local partners to:
- Provide an emergency response in Eastern Ghouta by distributing fresh bread and nutritious hot meals.
- Deliver 1,000 tonnes of wheat flour to make fresh bread in the besieged towns of Idlib and northern Aleppo, where essential supplies have been cut off for months, leaving people to starve to death.
- Help more than 7,000 homeless civilians to access clean water and safe hygiene and sanitation facilities.
- Provide urgent medical care through mobile clinics, vaccination centres and a specialist nutrition team.
However, we can do nothing without your help. Increased numbers of internally displaced Syrian families mean that more people than ever are in urgent need of food, medical aid, shelter, warm clothes and blankets.
How you can help the people of Syria
Our work is far from over. We need your help to ensure that hungry and frightened families in Syria are receiving the essential aid they so desperately need.
Just £65 will provide a family of four with enough nutritious food for a whole month, allowing them to eat full meals every day.
For £100, you can provide a vulnerable family with food, clean water and basic medical supplies. This emergency parcel could mean the difference between life and death for people who have lost everything.
For £250, you can give a family warm bedding and the shelter they need to protect them from the cold and give them a secure place to sleep each night.
