Refugee Crisis – Emergency Appeal
Imagine being pregnant and attempting to cross a border in a strange country. Imagine you were a child – or imagine your child - trying to enter a foreign place unaccompanied, desperately hungry with no place to call home.
This is the plight of the many refugees who are arriving in Europe after a treacherous journey. They are suffering terribly and desperately need our help.Donate Now
Illegal smugglers are charging refugees between $1,000 and $2,000 per head to cross the water from Turkey to Lesvos on inflatable motor boats. The boats, which are built for only 10-15 people and yet are carrying as many as 70+ refugees, are capsizing. People, including babies and children, are drowning.
If the refugees do make it to Lesvos they typically arrive soaking wet, sunburnt and in poor health. Next, they must travel 70km to the south of the island for registration and many, including pregnant women, women with new born babies and the disabled, are having to walk this gruelling distance in the scorching heat.
How we’re helping
Our teams are working tirelessly on the ground to help the refugees arriving in Lesvos. So far, thanks to your generous donations, we've:
- Assisted hundreds of refugees arriving on the island
- Distributed water to over 4,000 people
- Distributed biscuits, fruits, bread etc to over 3,000 people
- Provided coordination and translation for nearly 15,000 people
- Screened and treated hundreds of refugees for medical conditions
We’re also hoping to expand our medical operations and we will be providing sleeping bags to thousands of refugees over the coming months.
With your support, we’ll also continue to provide basic essentials such as food and water, as well as translation and coordination.Donate Now
Up to seven trains filled with refugees are arriving at the Macedonia/Serbia border daily, while buses and taxis arrive day and night.
The refugees are distressed and anxious to move on to the next part of their journey through Serbia. Many are suffering from cold, diarrhoea, dehydration, blisters and sunburn and desperately need our help.
How we’re helping

- Over 2,500 blankets and coats for children
- Over 3,000 women’s hygiene packs, including sanitary towels, wet wipes and nappies
- Medical packs, including adult and child paracetamol, bandages, slings, gauze, sanitizers, ear buds and cotton wool
