Daily bread for displaced Syrians
The Messenger (PBUH) said: “the dearest of deeds to Allah, may He be exalted, is joy that you bring to a Muslim, or relieving him of distress, or paying off debt for him, or dispelling his hunger.” (Al Tabaraani)
£50 – Provide a vulnerable Syrian family of five with two kilograms of fresh bread every day for five months.
2.8 million people are still displaced in northwest Syria. Over the last four years, more and more Syrians have struggled for food. Today, a staggering 12.4 million Syrians need food assistance as their capacity to cope with hunger, displacement, and sickness has been pushed to the brink.
Be a mercy to someone struggling to afford food, and provide a family-of-five with fresh bread deliveries – weighing two kilograms – every single day for five months.
Hunger at breaking point
For a decade, Syrians have struggled with the cost of food, which has spiralled out of control in the last four years. Last year alone, 4.5 million more people were plunged into hunger. Today, a staggering 12.4 million people in Syria are food insecure, and the cost of bread has shot up by 90%.
On average, a Syrian family spends 41% of their money on food, making it almost impossible to afford other necessities, such as water, fuel, electricity, healthcare and education.
In all, we want to support 720 families to have a secure source of bread for five months – that’s a total of 3,600 people.
Supporting local bakeries
We believe in consistent support and helping people through the toughest times. That’s why we’re buying bread from a local bakery just 3 miles away, helping to sustain a business in a rural area, and why we’ll be supporting each family with two kilograms of bread for five entire months, giving them a secure source of food, so that they can afford other essential items.
Our work in Syria
Human Appeal has been changing lives through our projects in Syria since 2013. Last year, we helped 349,896 people in Syria, including providing 47,445 people with nutrition In 2020, we supported 206,684 people through healthcare, nutrition, winter support, vaccinations, and projects fighting COVID-19.
Your charity this Ramadan will transform the daily life for a Syrian family who’ll no longer struggle for daily food, reducing the stress of finding food, as well as the financial and emotional burden.
Be a mercy to the most vulnerable, and reap Allah’s blessings in this month of mercy, and beyond.
