What we do

Explore the work we do, the regions we work in and our ongoing projects.

.

We provide vulnerable families with emergency relief, and we work to strengthen local communities by promoting child welfare and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Our projects also aim to develop long-term access to education and clean water, as well as improving sanitary facilities and hygiene practices.

Our work is always guided by five ethical, participatory and sustainable principles: gender parity, environmental protection, inclusion, protection, and value-for-money.

Sectors

Explore how we transform and empower communities through five sectors of intervention:

  • Child welfareChild welfare (0)

    Child welfare

Our one-to-one orphan sponsorship helps some of the most vulnerable children by supporting the cost of their shelter, clothing, food and school materials. This programme is a lifeline to nearly 12,000 children; without it, many would need to work to support their families. We also safeguard at-risk children through protection, education, and psychosocial support projects, as well as supporting a drop-in centre for children living on the streets.

We’re further improving our commitment to child welfare through training, awareness, and advocacy schemes, and we’re working to hire a child protection officer in every single one of our offices.

  • LivelihoodsLivelihoods (1)

    Livelihoods

Working in marginalised communities, we provide training, equipment, and business skills to help people support themselves and their families. From beekeepers to tailors, from bakers to farmers, from entrepreneurs to carpenters, we’ve trained and guided thousands of men and women, allowing them to enter the workforce with a skill that is relevant to their local environment.

  • EducationEducation (0)

    Education

We provide vulnerable, marginalised, and displaced girls and boys with access to inclusive, quality education in safe environments. We believe in the next generation, and we’re committed to providing children with the skills to become self-reliant young adults.

  • Emergency reliefEmergency relief (0)

    Emergency relief

When the worst happens, and communities find themselves facing conflict, disaster, or displacement, we provide emergency food, water, and shelter. We also support local clinics, improve sanitation, manage camps, and promote protection of the most vulnerable people.

Our rolling Emergency Fund ensures that we’re able to respond as soon as disaster strikes, dispatching our experienced teams to those who need help, even and especially when they’re in the most hard-to-reach areas.

  • FoodFood (0)

    Food

We provide training, tools, and guidance that empower communities at risk to grow their own food through sustainable agriculture. We want households to be resilient to drought, flooding, and other consequences of climate change, and to be equipped to rebuild their lives and livelihoods with dignity after crises. During emergencies, and for Ramadan and Qurbani, we also provide nutritious food to support families through their most fragile times.

  • HealthHealth (0)

    Health

We work to strengthen the capacity of hospitals, healthcare centres, and mobile clinics. Not only do we restore damaged and deteriorated equipment, but we train healthcare providers when they’re faced with new emergencies – such as the malnutrition and cholera in Yemen. When it’s difficult for vulnerable people to reach hospitals – for example, in times of conflict or in remote areas – we support mobile teams and community volunteers with equipment and training.

  • Water, sanitation, and hygieneWater, sanitation, and hygiene (0)

    Water, sanitation, and hygiene

By installing and renovating latrines, ablution areas, and water access points, and by training the local community to maintain them, we’re helping to sustain long-term access to clean water and improved hygiene. This allows those who would normally spend hours fetching water to have time to earn a living, and helps to protect the most vulnerable against diseases and infections spread through unclean water.
