Are you a doer?

£350 to register. £4,800 to raise. A lost city that will stay with you forever — and an orphaned child whose life changes because you climbed.

YES, I’M TREKKING

About the challenge

You don’t dream your way to Machu Picchu. You walk. 43km. Four days on the trail. One careful step at a time.

You’ll climb through cloud forest, cross Dead Woman’s Pass at 4,215m, and arrive through the Sun Gate as the lost city reveals itself below you. You’ll feel the altitude. You’ll feel the history under your feet. You’ll feel the moment it all makes sense.

This is grit and awe in equal measure — and a purpose far bigger than the trek itself. Every step you take is fuelling hope for a child who needs it most.

Why we trek: our Orphan Sponsorship Appeal

Why we trek: our Orphan Sponsorship Appeal

There are over 150 million orphans worldwide. 5,700 children become orphans every single day — to war, climate crises, poverty, disease and lack of medical care.

When you sponsor an orphan with Human Appeal, you enable a child to go to school, eat well, and stay safe, warm and healthy. £40 provides an orphaned child with food, shelter and healthcare for a month. £480 sponsors an orphan for a whole year.

“I and the one who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this” — and he held his index and middle fingers together. [Sahih Bukhari]

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need trekking experience?

No technical climbing experience is needed, but this is a demanding 4-day, high-altitude trek. A good level of fitness and proper training are essential. Full guidance and a kit list are provided after registration.

  • What about altitude sickness?

Cusco and the trail sit at high altitude. The itinerary includes acclimatisation days, and full advice is shared at the pre-departure webinar.

  • Is the registration fee refundable?

The £350 registration fee is non-refundable. All funds raised go directly to the Human Appeal Orphan Sponsorship Appeal.

  • Is there a minimum age?

Participants must meet the trek operator’s age and fitness requirements. Full details are provided on registration.

  • How does my fundraising reach orphans?

100% of funds raised support Human Appeal’s Orphan Sponsorship Appeal — helping children go to school, eat well and stay safe.

  • What does the £4,800 target provide?

£4,800 goes a long way for orphaned children — £40 provides one child with food, shelter and healthcare for a month, and £480 sponsors a child for an entire year.
