18 million facing famine-like conditions

Indeed, those men and women who give in charity and lend to Allah a good loan will have it multiplied for them, and they will have an honourable reward. (Quran 57:18)

Half of all livelihoods in Somalia depend on agriculture. Five consecutive failed rainy seasons have decimated crops and livestock, and 1.8 million children are facing acute malnutrition.

Almost 40% of the population - a staggering 6.6 million people are facing acute food insecurity, meaning they urgently need food now to survive.

£100 – provide an emergency food parcel to last one month, malnutrition kits, and water to a family in Somalia.

8.3 million Somalis are estimated to have been affected by the cyclical drought, including 1.3 million people who have been forced to flee their homes in search of food, water and grazing lands for their animals. 8 million people in Somalia lack access to safe sanitation; experts worry about the high risk of outbreaks or epidemics.

Not only has Somalia been wracked by repeated droughts, but it also suffers the effects of climate change, with recent rains flooding lowlands forcing 200,000 people to flee their homes, and in some areas completely contaminating 97% of all water sources.

Protect Somali families

Our team in Somalia is working to support communities affected by the drought. Donate, and you’ll help us to provide:

• Food parcels containing around 60 kilograms of rice, flour, sugar, oil and milk powder, lasting a family an entire month.

• One month’s worth of clean water trucking in drought-hit communities.

• High-calorie treatment for malnutrition, in coordination with UNICEF.

• Shelter and non-food items to displaced families arriving in Mogadishu’s camps.

With your help, we urgently need to raise £100,000 in the next few weeks in order to support those most at risk of starvation.
