Fidya – were you unable to fast for the month of Ramadan?

“Fasting is for a fixed number of days, and if one of you be sick, or if one of you be on a journey, you will fast the same number of other days later on. For those who are capable of fasting (but still do not fast) there is a redemption: feeding a needy man for each day missed. Whoever voluntarily does more good than is required, will find it better for him; and that you should fast is better for you, if you only know.” (Source - Qur’an 2:184)

Were you unable to fast for the whole month of Ramadan due to sickness, pregnancy, or any other valid reason?

It's preferable to fast your days in compensation, but that’s not always possible for those who continue to be unable to fast – such as people who are elderly, on medication, or nursing. If you couldn’t fast at all during the month of Ramadan then should pay a donation known as Fidya for each day missed.

It costs £150 to clear yourself of a month of missed fasts, which will provide two meals to a vulnerable person (or one meal to two vulnerable people) per missed fast through our Feed the Fasting project. In total, that’s 60 meals that your Fidya will provide to hungry people this Ramadan.

Pay your Fidya

Fidya provides two meals to a fasting person in a select number countries. This year, we’ll be delivering your Fidya to Palestine, Pakistan, Kashmir, Syria, and Yemen, to feed nutritious, filling meals to fasting families.

Many are already vulnerable communities that are hosting people who have fled violence, others are witnessing a high number of returnees, and more, still, are struggling communities experiencing poverty, conflict and food insecurity. One donation can make all the difference to a person who doesn’t know when their next meal will come.

Just because you are unable to fast, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy, and participate in, the blessed month. Donate £150 to Human Appeal and provide 60 iftars this Ramadan.

Give mercy now.
