With significant challenges facing the Afghan population, your donation is critical. In the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, the blistering cold weather poses a severe threat, especially to vulnerable families lacking a reliable way to heat their homes. Families are grappling with drought, climate change, economic crisis, and insecurity, with more than 15 million people facing acute hunger this winter.
Winter in Afghanistan
People in Afghanistan have experienced shock after shock – the collapse of the previous government, a devastating earthquake, ongoing climate shocks, and decades of conflict. Today, more than 50% of people in Afghanistan need humanitarian help.
Families here face drought, climate change, economic crisis, and insecurity. In the mountainous regions of Kunar and Laghman, winters bring extreme cold of as low as -13 degrees, snow, and bitter hardship. The most vulnerable families have to live amid snow and sub-zero temperatures without a reliable way to heat their homes.

Warm a family this winter
Donate to our Winter Emergency Appeal and help us to protect the most vulnerable families across eight countries from snow, rain, flooding, freezing temperatures and bitter winds. In Afghanistan, £110 will provide eight people with warm clothing and blankets. Each family will receive jumpers, pairs of socks, pairs of children’s gloves and hats, and large winter blankets. Each contribution not only offers warmth but also symbolizes hope and support, helping families face the harsh winter with dignity and comfort.
In all, we want to provide over 1,224 people from 200 families in Kunar and Laghman provinces, with a winter kit to help them stay warm throughout the bitter winter months.
