Help us clean Gaza’s entire water system
The water crisis in Gaza continues, with 97 per cent of the water unfit for human consumption, polluted with chemicals, seawater and sewage. 90 per cent of families have nothing else to drink or wash with.
As the country is locked down due to COVID-19, your help in providing clean, disinfected water to all families in Gaza has never been more urgent.
£100 - provide 350 people in Gaza with clean, disinfected water for 1 year.
£60 – Provide clean water for 4 people in Rafah by helping us to build a desalination plant.
“The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad)
Water-related illnesses are the leading cause of child mortality
Many families are forced to spend their small income buying expensive water sold by unregulated vendors. The water, which is also often contaminated, can be a serious health risk. Waterborne illness is the leading cause of child mortality in Gaza, particularly for under-fives, and the number of children suffering from kidney problems and requiring dialysis is skyrocketing.
We’re helping to empower communities in Gaza by providing clean water. Human Appeal is the only organisation chlorinating the water network in the Gaza Strip; since April, in partnership with UNOCHA, we have been disinfecting the entire water network and distribution system through the provision of chlorine, helping to protect Gaza against COVID-19.
Gaza’s water authority is urgently requesting help in providing clean water. Come September, Gaza’s water wells will have no chlorine disinfection solution, leaving the entire population at risk of contracting waterborne diseases, and unable to effectively stay safe from coronavirus.
With your support, we can chlorinate 284 water wells, 55 water reservoirs, 26 water lifting and booster stations, over 2,987km of water networks and carrier lines and 48 water desalination plants, benefiting 2.1 million people – the entire population of Gaza.
Our work in Gaza
We’ve been changing lives in Palestine for 29 years. Our recent work includes building a desalination plant for 15,000 people at Al Aqsa University, supporting over 3,000 children through winter in Gaza, and helping to fight the critical medical crisis by providing 10,000 medicines. Last year, we also set up an education and welfare centre, ensuring 450 Palestinian students have the opportunity to access school.
Please donate to our Safe Water Fund today and help us to rebuild and empower Gaza by providing the best of charities – water.
