Fruit trees

Fig, grape, and walnut trees in Iraq

“Those who spend their wealth in Allah’s cause are like grains of corn which produce seven ears, each bearing a hundred grains. (Quran 2:261)

Transform a future for a farming family by planting fig, grape and walnut trees in Iraq. For just £20, you can empower a family to rebuild a livelihood with trees that can fruit for generations. Help us to reverse rising food prices and disappearing agricultural land in Iraq.

Give £20 to provide a walnut sapling in Iraq, which produces around 50 kilograms of nuts once mature.

Give £20 to provide two fig trees in Iraq, which can provide fruit all year round.

Give £20 to provide two grape vines in Iraq, which can produce high yield within a year of donation.

Iraq was once famous for its high quality fruits, including pomegranate, apricot, figs, walnuts and grapes. But years of conflict, poor irrigation, and rising fuel prices have decimated the farms and farming families, and driven up the price of local fruits. Donate to revive agricultural land and livelihoods, which will help to fight rising prices and provide a sustainable livelihood to a farming family.

How you’ll help

When you donate £20, you’ll help to empower a farmer provide with a one-year-old tree – or, in the case of figs and grapes, two trees. We’ll be combining all donations to provide 500 farmers in Ninewa and Kurdistan each with 40 trees, and we’ll also provide a drip irrigation net to help modernize irrigation, pruning shears, pruning saw, and a backpack sprayer so they can treat and fertilise trees as needed. They’ll also receive updated training on agricultural practices.

We’ll be supporting families that already have farmland and experience farming these crops, but whose farms are under threat due to rising costs, poor irrigation, and decades of conflict. In all, 500 farmers and their families – a total of 1,260 people – will be supported by this project

Empowerment for generation

It takes at least 1-3 years from planting for each tree to fruit, but once it does, it’s a source of food and income for years, producing fruit decade after decade – fig and walnut trees live around 200 years. Not only will you help to return green, agricultural land to Iraq, but, with the right care, your tree will help to revive a neglected livelihood and support a family for generations.

Currently, much of farm land in Iraq uses dated irrigation methods that waste large amounts of water, our drip-net irrigation systems are the most efficient at delivering water and nutrients to trees’ roots, allowing farmers to save on water and grow more plants more efficiently.

Fruit trees the gift of endless blessings

Since the tree you donate will bear fruit for years to come, this project represents a Sadaqah Jariyah that continues to provide blessings, even after you have passed away. You can also make a donation on behalf of a loved one, and we will provide a personalised gift certificate within 2-4 weeks of your donation.
