Somalia Maternal Health

A maternal hospital for displaced families

100% Zakat applicable

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “He who does not show mercy to our little ones or recognise the rights of our elders is not one of us.” (Ahmad)

£165 – provide one displaced mother or baby with access to our hospital for mothers and babies.

Somalia has one of the world’s highest maternal mortality rates, with 1 in 20 of childbearing age dying due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth every year. Four per cent of babies in Somalia die during their first year.

With your help this Ramadan, we want to build a maternal and child health hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia, helping us to provide care to women and babies and to save lives.

Saving lives by building a maternal and child hospital

With your donations in this most merciful month, we’ll be building a dedicated hospital focusing on providing treatment to mothers and babies in Kahda, Mogadishu.

Conflict, flooding and food insecurity has forced 2.9 million Somalis to flee their homes, the largest population of displaced people live in Kahda, Mogadishu, surviving in temporary shelters that lack hygiene facilities, clean water and also healthcare.

Help us to build a hospital for this forgotten community, helping to reduce child mortality, and giving pregnant women a safe place to deliver their babies.

This project will provide qualified staff, equipment, medicines, a hygienic environment and facilities for antenatal and postnatal care.

We’ll also be organising mobile clinics which will reach out to the more remote communities to offer basic health services and raise awareness about the hospital. We’ll also roll out a vaccine and immunization campaign, ensuring that women and babies are protected against deadly viruses and diseases. With our mobile clinics, we will screen and treat patients in the community as much as possible, and arrange referrals where needed.

By providing this new hospital in Kahda, your donation will continue to help mothers and babies in Somalia each year, making it a beautiful act of Sadaqah Jariyah, providing blessings to you, and helping displaced communities, for years to come.

Donate to save little lives in this month of mercy, and multiply your blessings.

Mothers dying without healthcare

Without access to free healthcare in Kahda, many women have no choice but to give birth to their babies at home, without a qualified doctor, medicine, equipment of the clean hospital environment. This puts them at huge risk and denies them the ability to have a safe delivery and any complications or emergencies to be managed effectively.

Many pregnant women are also malnourished, which can result in a premature birth, which is even more risky if not supported at an established hospital with qualified medical staff. Premature babies often need urgent medical attention once they are born, and all babies are more susceptible to infection, disease, and illness.

Spread mercy this Ramadan, and help us to transform healthcare for 10,500 people every single month.
