Do something warm this winter

We need your spare coats

Do you have an old winter coat you no longer wear? Do you want to free up some space in your wardrobe? Well, now is your chance to hand it over to someone who really needs it.

Wrap Up Manchester is a heart-warming, award-winning winter campaign where we ask people like you to donate your winter coat so we can re-home it through our homeless shelters and refuges. Simple. We take any size, colour, and style. We're into one thing only - doing something good to keep people warm.

Human Appeal for the second year has partnered with Hands on London to bring their 7th annual winter campaign to Greater Manchester again - whilst this year also adding the cities of Birmingham and Glasgow for the first time.

Manchester - out in the cold

Sadly, homelessness has soared by more than 30% in the past year across Greater Manchester. The latest overall statistics show that 4,428 people in the region – that's one in every 633 people - no longer have a permanent roof over their heads. Of these, 4,239 are living in temporary accommodation, while 189 are sleeping rough. This trend doesn't look like it's going to reverse any time soon and many Manchester people are going to suffer over the coming winter months.

Give your old coat a new life

We need men's, women's, and children's coats - especially men's coats – so we can help keep Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow warm. Please note, that we are unable to accept fur or any other donated items other than warm coats for Wrap Up Manchester. Please scroll down for details on where and when to hand over your unwanted coat.

If you're still too attached to your old winter coat, we do understand. Maybe you'll hand it over next year? In the meantime, we ask you to please show your warmth this year by donating. Our Wrap Up Manchester fund will help provide the homeless of Greter Manchester with hats, scarves, gloves and winter coats.

How you can get involved

Wrap Up Manchester has never been a big budget campaign and we want to keep it that way. It's just a celebration of what people can do by contributing in little ways, either by donating their winter coat or volunteering with us. Here's how you can get involved with this fantastic local campaign.

Host A Local Coat Collection

Could you run a local coat collection at your workplace, place of worship, local store? Ask your co-workers whether they'd be happy to bring in their old coats, or donate to support our winter appeal. Please see When, Where & How To Donate for more information.

Volunteer at a collection point

Getting involved in Wrap Up Manchester as a volunteer will warm your heart! We need volunteers to help spread the word and help us collect and sort coats. Join as a group or individual, or encourage your staff to help us. Thanks to everyone who signed up, we have reached full capacity.

Fundraise Locally

Office collections and other fundraising activities like bake sales are a great boost to the campaign. We're also interested in people who can raise awareness and help the campaign reach wider networks. If you're still too attached to your old winter coat, we do understand. Maybe you'll hand it over next year? In the meantime, we ask you to please show your warmth this year by donating here.

Your Old Coats Will Change Lives

Once we've collected all the coats, we take them to our warehouse locations to be sorted and graded. The coats are then collected by charitable organisations from Greater Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow that help people in desperate need, including the homeless, the elderly, refugees, women who have fled domestic violence, and children who are living in poverty.

Last Year's Achievements

Last year, thanks to our fantastic coat donors, Wrap Up Manchester collected a whopping 1,500 coats which were distributed to 13 homeless shelters and charities supporting refugees, asylum seekers, women's refuges, and other community partners across the city. This year, we want to give out even more warmth.

Wrap Up Manchester really shows the love and power of the people of Manchester when they come together as a community to help those most in need.

Thank you for your warmth

We're so excited you've chosen to be part of this amazing effort to bring warmth to the people of Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow who need help.

If you're still too attached to your old winter coat, we do understand. Maybe you'll hand it over next year? In the meantime, we ask you to please show your warmth this year by donating here.

Remember you can share our campaign and let friends know that you're involved by using #WrapUpMcr and @humanappeal on social media.

Wrap Up Manchester's Partners

We'd like to say a huge thank you to HandsOn London, Safestore, CollectPlus, wnDirect, Network Rail and Drop Point who have made this campaign possible.
