World in Crisis Emergency Appeal

More than 2 billion people live in countries destroyed by conflict

In Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Palestine, conflict has devastated the lives of millions of people. Families have been forced to flee their homes, stripped of their dignity and plunged into severe poverty. They live in fear of unspeakable violence.

According to the UN, East Africa is experiencing the worst drought in 60 years, and a famine has been declared in Somalia and South Sudan. Every day, 6 children out of every 10,000 die in Somalia, due to hunger or diseases carried in dirty drinking water.

"The world is facing the worst humanitarian crisis since 1945: Lives have been torn apart by conflict and poverty, and now 20 million people face starvation. If we do not intervene, innocent people will starve to death or die from disease. Livelihoods, futures, and all hope will be lost. My friends, we must help now." Othman Moqbel, CEO, Human Appeal

Human Appeal is on the ground in Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Palestine, but we can only deliver vital aid with your help. Your support means the difference between life and death for people experiencing unimaginable suffering.

You can save a life today.

Crisis around the world

Somalia. Hungry.

In Somalia, women and children are forced to walk for weeks in search of food and water. They have lost everything - their livestock, their crops and their water sources. The most basic tools for survival have disappeared.

6.2 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance and protection. 2.9 million are facing starvation, and need immediate help to save or sustain their lives. 1 million children will be acutely malnourished this year if we do not intervene. Somalia is in crisis. We must respond.

Syria. Hurting.

Mohammed is 12 years old, and lives in what remains of Syria. He hasn’t been to school for a long time. Since his father was killed and his family home was destroyed, he's the sole provider for his family.

Life in Syria is a nightmare. As the crisis enters its sixth year, violence, destruction and utter disregard for human life continues to be the reality for the Syrian people. 13.5 million people require urgent humanitarian assistance, including 6.3 million who have been internally displaced and 4.6 million people who are trapped in besieged areas. Syria is in crisis. We must respond.

Iraq. Broken.

Iraq is in crisis. Ongoing violence has shattered the country’s infrastructure and taken the lives of thousands of innocent civilians. 11 million people are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance and 3 million people have been internally displaced.

Between 27 February and 3 March 2017 alone, 42,000 innocent people were forced to flee their homes, and hundreds were treated for injuries. Shortages of safe water in parts of Mosul are critical, with many families risking their health every day by drinking contaminated water. Iraq is in crisis. We must respond.

Yemen. Starving.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is desperate. Two thirds of the population . 18.8 million people - need urgent help and more than 14 million people are going hungry. 7 million of them have no idea where their next meal is going to come from.

The conflict has virtually halted agriculture and food production, and chronic hunger has impacted on pregnant women and small children most severely. 2.2 million children are malnourished due to conflict and an average of 6 children are killed or injured every day. Yemen is in crisis, we must respond.

Palestine. Shattered.

Hossam was born with cerebral palsy. He lives in one room with his 11 siblings. When it rains, water leaks in from every corner. The children are always sick and there’s no medicine.

The 2014 Gaza conflict was catastrophic. 2,251 Palestinians were killed, including 551 children. 11,231 were injured, including 3,436 children, and a third of those injured, must live with disability for the rest of their lives. Today, 75,000 people are still displaced, many struggling to survive in makeshift shelters, and there is an acute water shortage. Palestine is in crisis. We must respond.

Thanks to your amazing support, we raised £3 million last year to help people living in conflict-affected parts of the world.

Delivering Hope

As part of our East Africa Crisis appeal, we’ve distributed emergency food aid to 4,000 needy people in Somalia, and provided 81,000 people with access to safe water for themselves and their livestock.

Delivering Health

In Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, we are working to rehabilitate the Aljumhori public hospital and provide emergency assistance to hospitalized children. We’ve already enabled 200 children and their mothers to access vital medicines, medical tests, and hygiene and nutritional supplies.

Delivering Care

In Syria, we’ve enabled thousands of conflict-affected women and children to access maternal and child health services. Our Iman hospital has provided medical care for nearly 5,000 children, and prenatal and antenatal care for nearly 5,000 women. We’re also providing access to quality schooling for 200 girls and 200 boys in rural Idlib, with a 90% exam success rate among the children.

Delivering Aid

In Palestine, thanks to your amazing support we have rebuilt the Kamal Odwan Hospital, providing lifesaving medical care to thousands of Palestinian people. So far, the hospital has provided medical assistance to over 300,000 people.

We can only continue to provide vital humanitarian aid to the world’s most vulnerable people with your support. You make our work possible. Please open your heart to those who are suffering.
