MANCHESTER-BASED CHARITY HELPING SAVE LIVES IN ALEPPO
Human Appeal, a humanitarian aid charity, based in Manchester are currently on the ground, providing food, in Aleppo, Syria as fighting has intensified over the past 10 days. Human Appeal have so far provided food to over 42,000 people displaced by the current fighting in Aleppo, since April 15th.
The charity, based in Withington, Greater Manchester, have achieved this via distributing 9,000 packages of bread and 4,000 “Ready To Eat” (RTE) parcels, which contained foods like olive oil, juice and tinned goods like beans, hummus and tuna. Human Appeal aim to deliver another 9,000 bread packages and 4,000 RTE parcels by May 7th. Human Appeal have also been providing medical aid for those affected.
As well as providing regular food deliveries to those escaping the fighting in Aleppo, Human Appeal are also aiming to increase the growing and changing needs of the crisis in Aleppo by providing non-food items like tents, diapers, better waste water management as well as water and babies milk.
The fighting in Aleppo, which US Secretary of State John Kelly described as “out of control” has seen Syria’s shaky ceasefire unravel, has claimed over 250 lives and reduced the rebel-held city of Aleppo, once home to two million people, to between 350,000-400,000 people.
Othman Moqbel, CEO of Human Appeal, said “Aleppo is burning. People are dying. Not soldiers, not militia, not mercenaries, but people. Families, doctors, children. Food is decreasing and violence is increasing. Through our network of local contacts, we are able to reach those in most desperate need, but the death and destruction needs to stop, otherwise we are just papering over the cracks.”
Mr Moqbel finished “We are doing all we can to help those who need it, but until the violence stops and all parties strive to achieve peace, the desperation and despair will only grow.”
Othman Moqbel is available for interviews. More images are available.
