Human Appeal offers assistance to local councils in refugee crisis
Humanitarian aid agency, Human Appeal, has offered to support councils in Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester and London with the upcoming arrival of refugees.
Human Appeal has extensive experience of working in the countries where today's refugees are arriving from. The organisation has been providing assistance to internally displaced people in Syria since the conflict began there four years ago, and has a strong understanding of the situation that they are escaping.
Human Appeal will provide support in terms of practical items such as food, but has also offered to provide cultural support. The organisation has extensive knowledge of the refugees’ country of origin and many Arabic speakers, who can help to support newly arrived refugees, assisting them with their transition into everyday UK life.
Othman Moqbel, CEO of Human Appeal, said:
“Human Appeal is taking a two-pronged approach to the current refugee crisis. Our experience shows that providing safe havens for refugees in neighbouring countries is the most effective way of helping people who are escaping conflict. Those who travel across Europe put themselves and their families at a huge risk, having to rely on people traffickers and gangs. Therefore we are encouraging politicians and international agencies to work together to fund more safe havens.
“However, for the refugees that do arrive in the UK, we understand the difficulties that they may experience, having worked with refugees escaping conflict around the world. Therefore Human Appeal has offered to work in partnership with local councils to help refugees who are arriving.”
