Sounds Of Light concert back for third year and bigger than ever
All-star line up takes the Sounds of Light on tour in aid of Gaza.
The Sounds of Light concert tour for 2014 begins in Liverpool this month (Oct 23).
The focus of this year's events will be Rebuilding Gaza following the fighting there earlier this year. The tour has again been organised by the Manchester based humanitarian aid charity, Human Appeal.
The nationwide concert tour, which features some of the best known Muslim music artists in the world, is touring eleven cities across the UK between October and November Artists performing at the events include the internationally renowned musician, Maher Zain - who has returned to the tour for the third year running. Zain is a multi-platinum award winning singer songwriter.
He is known for his meaningful songs that inspire, entertain and send a message of peace to the world. Maher appeals to millions of fans through his music videos and worldwide performances. He has performed at concerts in Sweden, Canada, Australia, USA, UK, France, Egypt, Algeria and Malaysia.
Also in the line-up is Raef, a singer-songwriter and musician born in Washington D.C. He has performed across the United States and is known for his unique lyricism and acoustic sound. He is also noted for his Islamic renditions of mainstream tracks, such as Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’ and Chris Brown’s ‘With You.’
Perhaps the artist who will gain the most attention is 16-year-old singer Harris J, who will be appearing at selected venues on the tour. Harris has been dubbed the Muslim community's answer to Justin Bieber because of his youth and huge teenage following. Harris J was born and bred in London. He has been performing at multi-faith gatherings since he was five.
His highly diverse family background has given him a voice with a unique style and tone with his mother and father bringing influences from Ireland, India, Russia, England and the West Indies. He is a full time student at the world famous BRITS school, London where he studies singing and performance arts. He has also performed at many charity fundraising events.
The events will be compered by Human Appeal's lead fundraiser and regular Islam Channel host Na'eem Raza. "This is going to be the biggest and best Sounds of Light tour yet," says Raza. “Last year the UK really got behind Syria and helped us raise over £3m in just 12 days,” he says.
“This year, there is more need than ever before for donations to help people all over the globe. The tragedy of Gaza this year highlights just how important it is to raise money. We are confident we can beat last year’s total. The idea behind Sounds of Light is to bring people together from across the UK - whatever their faith. It's a growing phenomenon."
