Human Appeal’s work in Gaza, Palestine
Human Appeal is on the ground in Gaza delivering life-saving aid to the victims conflict there. It is one of the largest non-governmental organisations delivering aid to the region. Human Appeal’s work is extensive, especially during the Ramadan period.
Since the start of the conflict, Human Appeal has delivered twenty tonnes of medical supplies and essential medicine to the region. These have become critical in supporting life at the Al-Shifa Hospital, the key operational hospital in Gaza.
Temperatures are reaching sweltering highs in Gaza and the pressure on the intensive care units at the the Al-Shifa is also rising. Human Appeal has now installed an essential air conditioning system in the hospital. In addition to this the charity has delivered twenty A&E beds. Providing enough fuel to keep the generators working and the hospital operational is a major priority. The medical staff, which includes Human Appeal personnel are working 24/7 in three shifts at Al-Shifa Hospital. Each shift is made up of 12 paramedics.
Human Appeal gives thousands of people clean water every day and have also distributed over 12,000 food packs to refugee families. Every week an additional 1,600 food parcels and hygiene packs are handed out, as well as blankets and essentials. Small amounts of financial aid have been given to some of the most desperate families to help them buy basic essentials.
"We are only distributing the equivalent of a few pounds to these people but this makes a huge difference when you need to get water and food and makeshift shelter for your family." says Othman Moqbel, Chief Executive, Human Appeal.
The nature of this complex situation makes it difficult for any NGO to operate in the region, which is why Human Appeal’s work on the ground is invaluable.
Human Appeal is able to save lives and deliver on the ground because it draws on more than twenty years of experience dealing with people in the most desperate of situations. Here are some of the reasons we can make your donations count:
- Human Appeal has worked extensively in Palestine since 1991. It has some of the biggest projects in the region and has an established network consisting of suppliers and businesses which can provide the flexibility and credit needed to deliver life-saving aid immediately.
- Human Appeal works in close collaboration with the United Nations through UNRWA to procure essential aid and deliver it on the ground.
- Human Appeal’s existing network of programmes means support is already being provided to the poor, needy and vulnerable in Gaza. This allows the charity the deliver aid to the hardest hit regions quickly.
Throughout the crisis Human Appeal has been working around the clock to support the people caught up in the fighting in Gaza. The donations of the great British public make this possible. But the situation is worsening by the day and the need for more donations is essential.
"As the crisis in Gaza deepens the need for funds to provide more aid and medical supplies increases," says Moqbel. "We will carry on making our appeals and raising money. So will many more charities and aid organisations who need to work in unison to help alleviate the suffering.
"We also recognise the importance of ensuring we are able to account for the way the funds we raise are spent. Donors demand this and we are determined to always be transparent."
Human Appeal showcases much of its feedback through its social media channels. But because it is one of the few operating charities in Gaza, many media outlets show our support in the hospitals and refugee camps as seen below.
