Tribute to Alan Henning
Throughout today the people of Manchester have turned out in their thousands for a a vigil and a service of reflection for Alan Henning.
Everyone at Human Appeal - which is based in Manchester - wishes to pay their respects to this brave and selfless man. We send our condolences to his family and friends at this devastating time. Friday’s terrible news that Alan had been killed - despite numerous pleas for his release from around the globe - highlights the tragedy which is taking place in Syria, Iraq and the surrounding region.
Alan was part of the community here, which is made up of people from all walks of life, faiths and beliefs. He wanted to help those who were in desperate need of aid in a country a long way from his own home. He put the needs of the helpless first.
His death demonstrates the immense dangers aid workers, whatever their faith, have to endure to help those suffering in countries beset by violence.
We pray the memory of Alan and his work will live on in the hearts of everyone across the country and the world. Rest in peace, Alan. Our prayers are with you and for the future you hoped you could help bring about.
