Sudan Winter Emergency
2.7 million vulnerable children need support this winter
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well-treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill-treated’. [Bukhari]
£150 Winter Emergency Kit – can protect an orphan in Sudan against the cold, with a warm blanket and winter clothing, as well as soap to practice safe hygiene.
Conflict. Civil unrest. Floods. COVID-19. This year, humanitarian needs have continued to rise in Sudan. Families cannot access food or healthcare. 9.6 million people do not know where their next meal will come from, and 2.7 million children, including vulnerable orphans, are acutely malnourished. And now it’s winter.
In winter, families, orphans, and their guardians, displaced by conflict and floods, are living in camps and crowded shelters unable to afford the basics they need to survive. Temperature drops and inadequate shelter and clothing make children extremely vulnerable to cold weather-related illnesses. We must do all we can to protect them.
Help us protect orphans
This winter, Human Appeal will be providing winter kits to orphan families in Omdurman, Ombada and Karrari in Khartoum, helping reduce the economic burden of winter on caretakers and enabling them to spend what little they have on other essentials.
