Sakina Centre: empowering and protecting women

Allah Almighty advises us to stand up for justice: “O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah.” (4:135)

Survived a war, now at risk of exploitation. 3.3 million women and girls in Iraq need humanitarian assistance and protection. Help Iraqi women and girls to recover from the war by improving awareness about gender-based violence, providing psychosocial support and vocational training.

£150 - Provide 5 Iraqi women who have overcome violence and exploitation with psychosocial support and training for one month, helping them to overcome trauma and start small businesses to support their children.

Help provide Iraqi women who have overcome violence and exploitation with psychosocial support and training for one month, helping them to overcome trauma and start small businesses to support their children.

Iraq’s most vulnerable women face violence, poverty, and exploitation

An estimated 6.7 million people in Iraq, including 3.3 million women and girls need some form of humanitarian assistance and protection. Women and children are exposed to multiple risks, including exploitation, gender-based violence, child labour, and child marriage.

This project focuses on at-risk communities, such as female breadwinners, marginalized children, and people with disabilities. By working with all sides of the community, we’re helping to lift everyone out of hardship, together. Help us to change the world into a more just place for women and girls.

Sakina Centre: creating safe, caring spaces

With your help, our Sakina Centre in Ninewa will support 1,000 at-risk women and girls through psychosocial support and gender-based violence (GBV) case management. We’ll also support 600 women and girls with specialised GBV prevention and response.

Sakina Centre will advocate against GBV, provide psychosocial activities, and provide training on women’s rights and gender-based violence, in addition to vocational training.

How Sakina Centre has changed lives

Last year, we helped a total of 115,027 people in Iraq. Human Appeal has been working in Iraq since 2016, and our Sakina Centre has been transforming lives since 2018. Last year, we transformed the lives of 5,267 women and children through our Sakina centre.

In 2020, we also supported 91,393 children through our school feeding programme in Tal Afar, 5,926 people benefited from our agricultural livelihood project in Ninewa, and 10,373 people received child protection services and training.

The Messenger’s (PBUH) final words on this earth warned men to be good to women. Yet, still, hundreds of years later, many people who follow the Prophet’s example fail to heed this message.

Please give £150 this Ramadan, and multiply your rewards by helping us to transform the lives of vulnerable women and girls in Iraq.

Together we can build a brighter future of some of the most vulnerable women in Iraq this Ramadan. Tomorrow’s change starts today.
