Shelter for Rohingya people in Myanmar

In 2017, extreme brutality and persecution forced 700,000 Rohingya people to leave everything behind and flee to Bangladesh. Today, there are almost 1 million Rohingya people seeking refuge in Bangladesh. Far from home, they must live without food, water, shelter, and access to vital medicine in camps. They and their host communities now rely on humanitarian assistance in order to survive.

Among the most vulnerable are women and children who are exposed to gender-based violence and gross violation. Over 150,000 Rohingya children under five are acutely malnourished. They came here looking for safety and security away from the violence at home, but many are yet to find it.

“Whoever removes a grief from a believer from amongst the sorrows of this life, Allah will remove a grief from him amongst the sorrows of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever brings ease to one in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this life and the Hereafter. Whoever covers a Muslim, Allah will cover him in this life and the Hereafter.” (Sahih Muslim)

Provide vulnerable refugees with safe shelter

Help us to remove grief, and bring ease and shelter to Rohingya families this Ramadan. With your help, we will be reconstructing, renovating or re-roofing the shelters of 1,768 displaced people, so that they can live in secure and dignified spaces.

Displaced Rohingya people face state restrictions; they are prohibited from visiting neighbours, walking to the market or playing in public spaces. This makes everyday life even more unbearable, but it also stops them from being able to buy building materials.

After carefully assessing the damage and degradation of two camps in Sittwe, we will be reconstructing eleven shelters, as well as re-roofing 45 per cent of shelters in Maw Ti Ngar camp, and 75 percent of those in Thet Kae Pyin camp.

£300 will allow us to reconstruct, re- roof or renovate a damaged and unsafe shelter for one Rohingya family.

£600 will allow us to reconstruct, re- roof or renovate a damaged and unsafe shelter for two Rohingya families.

£900 will allow us to reconstruct, re- roof or renovate a damaged and unsafe shelter for three Rohingya families.

Our work assisting Rohingya refugees

Since the Rohingya crisis began in August 2017, we have provided vital aid to 77,601 Rohingya people in Myanmar and 61,250 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. We have supported 15,000 refugees with temporary shelters, food parcels and medical care, and a further 17,000 through the installation of latrines, water supply and bathing areas.

Last year, in Myanmar, our work included providing emergency food to 24,500 people in Rakhine State and supplying winter clothes, mattresses and food to over 8,000 people in Sittwe.

This Ramadan, help us to protect homes against harsh weather conditions, and to preserve dignity in these camps. One donation will change the lives of a vulnerable family. Donate today and reap the blessings of the holy month.
