Improve access to clean water for the community in Big Orm village through:
A. Provision of fuel to wells generators: Water wells require regular fuel for their pumping generators to ensure adequate water flow and continued drinking water safety. Each well needs 160 litres of fuel per day.
B. Rehabilitation of wells and maintenance of generators: The six existing wells in Big Orm village are not functioning well and need repair in order to provide water to the community. Human Appeal will detect and work to repair the cause of deterioration to well performance. Furthermore, the wells will be closely monitored for any leaks that can cause hazardous occurrences and that may prevent the pumping of water to the central water station. This includes regular checks to the engine oil, replacing oil filters, inspecting the cooling system, routine engine cleaning, etc.
C. Training and community mobilization: The project will focus on building the capacity of the water points committees, the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU), and the technical water engineer, by providing them with the technical and managerial skills necessary to manage their water points. Management training will cover such issues as managing and raising funds for repairs and project sustainability, conflict resolution, international water standards, WHO Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality etc. The project will also spearhead the mobilization of community members of Big Orm village. This will be realized through involvement of the community leaders, and local authorities about the importance of healthy practices for water points uses.
