Overall, an estimated 6.2 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, 3.1 million of whom require urgent lifesaving assistance.

Widespread food insecurity resulting from below average production and large-scale livestock losses have reduced household access to food and income. Sustained humanitarian assistance has prevented more extreme outcomes in many areas, though persistent drought threatens the recovery of normal livelihoods, and further deterioration in food security is likely through 2018.

Our Somalia Livelihoods project supports vulnerable communities through the provision of agricultural and livestock inputs, rehabilitation of irrigation channels and provision of irrigation pumps to smaller farmer households in order to build appropriate coping strategies and minimise their exposure to shocks.
